Gitbet

A small Git client I made for myself when I switched to Linux.

I bet 50-50 whether a vibe-coded Git client would actually work. It did, mostly. It was also the last thing I let AI write for me before I pause my subscriptions, heal my wallet and my brain.

Why it exists

Since I started using AI at work, I watched the code in both my professional and hobby projects degrade to a point where it wasn't worth it anymore. Around the same time I got tired of Windows slowing me down: sluggish IDEs and a huge memory footprint on everything.

When I set up my Linux environment I found that SourceTree isn't available, and I needed a free, clean Git GUI with a similar layout. My AI subscription had a week or two left, so I gave it one last task: a Git GUI that meets my expectations. The app is built in Angular and Electron so I can patch it myself if it is useful. 50-50 it works, otherwise I throw it away.

It works, and I use it daily. I don't plan more features; it has everything I need as a developer. I'm sharing it in case it helps someone on a similar path.
